This year, my wife Natali, my son Edgardo and I spent our summer holidays from 15^th to 29^th August again in the Macaronesia. However this year we were not at the Portuguese islands but at the Canary Islands instead and more precisely at Tenerife and one day trip at La Gomera.

In the past in 2006 we already visited the Canary Islands at Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Unfortunately Tenerife differently from the Portuguese Islands (especially The Azores) was not saved from speculation and it is invaded by milion of tourists coming from all over the world, therefore from a naturalistic point of view it does not always offer a pleasant view. There are however still many natural places, especially in the north-west and in north-east part of the island in the Anaga peninsula.

From an ornithological point of view Tenerife Island offers four endemic species (one of which is the Blue Chaffinch which I observed together with the birder friend of mine Cesare Dell'Acqua who I met there) and many subspecies.
As usual I devoted the time available to the sea-watching since throughout the the year I stay far from the sea and especially so far from the Atlantic Ocean.
Unfortunately the results were not as expected, and for the umpteenth time I could not observe the Baroli, which for the time being is a mirage.
While I am writing this report, here at home up in the mountains in Valtellina my mind goes to Macaronesia, there I left my soul flying together with the shearwaters. Which are endless !!!!
